Cold: Fail!

Okay, it's not really an epic fail, not yet. Just a 4-day fail.

Yeah, so I caught that cold. It sucked. Still sucks, but not so bad. After being short words on Wednesday and Thursday, I didn't get any writing done on Friday. In fact, I missed work and slept until 3:30pm. Watched a couple movies, complained, ate jello, and went back to sleep by like 8:00pm. Man, I haven't slept that much since I was in high school.

Saturday was much the same, and also included no writing. Sinus headache: not good for creative thinking processes. I cancelled knit class on Sunday, but was feeling well enough in the evening to fit in 2300+ words. Great, but not really enough, because I also didn't get any writing done yesterday either! After a full day of work and still not feeling 100%, it was all I could do to keep my eyes open on the drive home... yikes...

All this, of course, means I also failed in blog posts!

Fail and fail. But—! Not epic failures yet. I got in a few thousand words tonight, bringing my total up to 31K and only 1.2K words away from where I should be at this point. I can catch that up. And as for the blog posts... well, take a look at my posting history. Yeah, sketchy at best. I'm still pretty happy with how often I've remembered to post this month! Quality posts? No, not really. But you can't have your cake and eat it too >.<

Done.

And another Halloween has come and gone. My favourite day of the year, and it's not even a holiday. Damn. I failed pretty epically this year with my costume, and to a lesser extent, the decorations. I had a great costume idea earlier this year and I procrastinated like a boss until I ran out of time to put it together.

Fall back costume: The devil-in-pleather.

I think I missed my A-game on the decorations for two reasons: Idiot#1 didn’t bring the decorations up from the basement until two weeks after I asked for them, and somewhere in that timeframe it decided to snow and turn cold outside. Not encouraging for decorating. Still, I did get some trick-or-treaters:

Joe (aka. Idiot#3) as Robin and Madd-man as Batman!

And it wasn’t a total holiday failure:

Work Pumpkins. Mine is a rendition of George, my boss’s dad. Scary, yes.
Halloween Sugar Cookies, for knit club last week.
And roasted pumpkin seeds!
If I ever decide to run for Prime Minister of this country, just know that I will in fact make Halloween a national holiday. Perhaps even a week-long holiday.

Anyway, NaNoWriMo starts in less than three hours. Plus the Epic Month of Blog Posts, so you’ll see me again real soon... you’ve been warned.

Bender

You've heard of a bender, right? A week or a month of constant binge drinking—or drug use, whatever your pleasure.

I was on a bender for the past week and a half. Not drugs or liquor. Books. I was on a reading bender.

I may have mentioned before, when I start a book I like I literally can't put it down. For example, Friday before last I started a new book (new author I'd never heard of before) around 8:00 in the evening. I then proceed to read, non-stop, until I finished the book at 4:30 in the morning. Then I finally went to sleep.

The real problem is this: I wanted more. Same author, same genre, whatever. Like an addict, I sought out more to read as soon as I got up the next day. I found a different series of two or three books by the same author, and devoured those over the weekend. And I kept going. Every minute I wasn't at the office last week (and even a few sneak-reads when I should have been working!) I was reading.

I read about fifteen books since that first one last Friday. Great—except I didn't get anything else done!

So I'm swearing off reading for two weeks. Hopefully. All of you other Obsessive Readers Anonymous members out there, keep your fingers crossed for me!

Epic Fail: TGIF

TGIF. I'm not really into the "thanking god" part, but I am really happy that it's Friday.

Our tech guy came into the office after hours last night to add another computer to our remote access system, as well as fix a couple of other minor problems. Did he call this morning when we opened to let us know what he did and to make sure everything was running smoothly? No, he didn't. Because if he had, I could have told him that it absolutely was not running smoothly. Neither did he answer either his work or personal lines, or respond to the text I sent him letting him know we had urgent problems. With our office undergoing renovations starting at noon today, and with the boss going away on vacation this afternoon, we need everything to be working. Right now.

That's how a business operates. Our systems need to be up and running during office hours, or we can't do our jobs. Running his own business, our tech guy should understand that. He should have called this morning to check in on us. At the very least he should make sure he had time to answer our calls or texts. And if he knew he wasn't going to be available to help this morning, he should have let us know in advance.

So today is an epic fail for our tech guy. TGIF and I get to go home at noon, sit back and relax with a margarita, and maybe finish off some of those editing lists I've been working on.

Epic Fail

Not to go all feminist on you, but this commercial seriously does not impress me. I mean, she tries out downhill bmx, skateboarding, and soccer—male dominated sports—and fails. Then she dons a tight leotard, tries out gymnastics, and finally succeeds? Could you have picked a more "girly" sport? Maybe she should have succeeded in cheerleading instead? It's a nice concept—never give up—but you're basically saying, "keep trying, eventually you'll find a sport where girls belong."

Eff you, NeverStopMilk!

Epic Fail: Vancouver

I only have two things to say about the riot in Vancouver on Wednesday. First, the simple truth that Hockey + Beer = Canadian. It got ugly and embarrassing, but the reality is that most of us are more passionate about hockey than politics, religion or the environment. Add in more than a little beer and a few bad apples...

The second thing is this:
And if you don't get it, if you missed the YouTube video this parodies... consider yourself lucky. It was like the most epic fail of all time.

Which reminds me. I forgot to post this during our near-miss rapture in May, because my birthday was the next day and I was beginning to worry I wouldn't get to see my [deleted to obscure my age]th year. Well, not really. Raptures aren't my thing. They also fall into the #epicfail category:

"And lo, it came to pass that Macho Man Randy Savage did prevent the impending rapture. Amen."

On that note... I'm out. I hope your weekend, wherever you are, is epic!
